he Versicolor Pheasant or Japanese Green Pheasant is a bird native to the Archipelago of Japan, where it is endemic. It is the national bird of Japan.
The male has red facial skin, bright dark blue neck, bright dark green chest, a white mantle and a white tail with black stripes. The female is almost completely homogeneous with her entire body being brown with black spots.
Males have weight between 1.2 and 1.4 kg and females between 0.9 and 1.0 kg. These weights are lower than that of the common pheasant, from which this species is believed to be a mutation.
All pheasant species have strong sexual dimorphism, the male being larger and more colorful than the female. The pheasant becomes sexually mature after one or two years of age.
The male is easy to identify. He has a green head, a red face, a white collar, a golden brown back and a long tail.
The female is completely brown, also easily identified by its long tail. The females incubate the eggs and takes care of the chicks alone.
A pheasant can live up to twenty years. In nature it feeds on fruits, roots, insects, leaves and vegetables. In each posture the number of eggs varies from10 to 20. The incubation period is 23 days.
The Canary, also called the Canary of the Kingdom, is originally from the Azores, Madeira and Canary Islands.
The Wood Duck is a species of duck native to the swampy areas of the east coast of the United States of America.
The Whistling Duck, or Dendrocisne bicolor, owes its name to the calls in the form of an acute whistle that are heard when it feeds, rests or flies.
