he Red-legged Partridge is about 35-40 cm long, with are d beak and legs. Their back and head have brownish feathers. The flanks are streaked with brown and white, with a black line that outlines the white from the cheeks to the chest, forming a dark necklace. The belly is light in color, slightly gray. The male is heavier and more robust than the female, is usually stronger and has a spur.
This is a monogamous species, which mating usually begins in February and March, although this is subject to change depending on atmospheric conditions.
The laying is done during the months of April to May, with an average number of 12 eggs that are brooded for 23 days.
They are a nidifugous species so the cheepers leave the nest at birth and remain close to the female. The first flight usually occurs around the six weeks of age.
